John,
I've tried quite a few options and versions. In the latest effort, I
recompiled the kernel with the web100 patch for the appropriate version for
the kernel, I used version Alpha version 2.4.0, for kernel 2.4.27.
The whole process went well and didn't have any compilation errors. I
renamed the -web100 version to be the conventional 2.4.27 in the boot dir
and in /lib/modules, essentially, subing the new version for the original
Knoppix version. The making of the ISO went well but when I booted the new
version, still no /proc/web100 directory.
I ran strings on the only vmlinuz file in the system and it shows a line
with 2.4.27-web100 in it and then lots of web100 lines too, so I think the
patch is in place and everything else seems to be working but no
/proc/web100.
I wonder when that directory is created? Could it be that the directory
creation is attempted but that /proc directory is already write protected
due to the nature of Knoppix?
I know that the /proc dir is special and I'm unable to either create files
or directories in there using root privs, so that is why I wonder when the
/proc/web100 directory is actually made.
I know this is tough to diagnose as I can't provide you enough information
but any suggestions would be welcomed.
Thanks,
Phil
