Rich,
Thanks for the reply. I'm fuzzy on one point only; are you saying there
are patches specifically for FC5 2.6.17 and 2.6.18, or for the
kernel.org 2.6.17 and .18? I'm being asked to install web100 on my
laptop as a test ground, so it's temporary. The only attachment I have
to FC5 2.6.16 is that it works. My understanding is that if I did build
a 2.6.17/8 from kernel.org with the web100 patch, I could use that
kernel while the testing is in progress and then revert to my old kernel
if any problems arose. Do I have that right? My management endorses FC5
so I believe I will eventually have to end up running FC5 again.
Thanks,
Chris

As Doug said earlier, what steps you take depend on what you want to
do. If you really want to keep this specific kernel, then you will
need to retrieve the source for it from a FC5 repository and download
the appropriate web100 kernel patch. More than likely, you will run
into some failures so you will need to manually fix these problems
before your kernel will build.
If you don't really need this specific kernel, then you can upgrade to
the 2.6.17 or 2.6.18 kernel series. There are patches for these
kernels so they should apply without any specific problem. These
later kernels will easily work with the rest of the FC5 files, it's
just that you will be using your own custom kernel instead of the one
Fedora provides.

I would like to patch my Fedora Core 5 kernel
(2.6.16-1.2122_FC5-i686) with the web100 patch. Does anyone have any
experience with this kernel? Has anyone successfully created and
installed using this kernel?
Thanks,
Chris
